@meow: invite sent, there probably aren't many active conversations, but if you post (and tag one) i should be able to reply

meow 2016-01-09T02:00:07.000085Z

great, thanks

meow 2016-01-09T02:03:56.000086Z

how do I tag one?

rafd 2016-01-09T02:06:28.000087Z

start typing # in the compose

rafd 2016-01-09T02:07:14.000088Z

@meow i've made a note it's not a very discoverable feature

meow 2016-01-09T02:10:21.000089Z

I feel like I showed up for a party and can't find anyone, even the hosts. Did I get the date wrong? Is this the right address?

rafd 2016-01-09T02:11:52.000090Z

heh, yes, the first-time experience is lame; are you able to see my recent messages?

meow 2016-01-09T02:22:42.000091Z

just made a cup of tea...

meow 2016-01-09T02:23:08.000092Z

yes, I will read and respond there

meow 2016-01-09T02:39:34.000094Z

@rafd: Okay, here's what I need to do. I need to stop looking at this as a slack-alike, which it isn't, and just look at it according to your design vision. So I'm going to watch your demo video and take another look before I start providing any kind of feedback.

rafd 2016-01-09T02:44:08.000095Z

thanks; it's meant to be used in similar cases (team chat), but it attempts to address the problem in a very different way

rafd 2016-01-09T02:44:36.000096Z

it's hard to get a good feel of it just by looking, because it's new/different; it's easier to evaluate a slack-alike when you know IRC, slack etc.

meow 2016-01-09T02:47:54.000097Z

@rafd: Well, I think this is a good sign. I just watched your demo, which lasts only a few minutes. I had played with the live version and was kind of like "meh". Watched the demo and now I'm like "SOLD!"

rafd 2016-01-09T02:48:33.000098Z

@meow: woo! glad to hear

meow 2016-01-09T02:49:44.000099Z

It's a really neat starting point. Very rough, which you know. But the idea is simple, clean, new, refreshing.

meow 2016-01-09T02:50:22.000100Z

And that's really the hardest thing to get right. Without a good initial vision the rest doesn't matter.

meow 2016-01-09T02:50:33.000101Z

well done

rafd 2016-01-09T02:51:07.000102Z

thank you for your kind words! this is the first place we've shown it outside of a few individuals

rafd 2016-01-09T02:51:16.000103Z

glad it has some glimmers of potential

rafd 2016-01-09T02:51:27.000104Z

...and i promise, no dancing parrots

meow 2016-01-09T02:51:34.000105Z

I think it has more than just glimmers.

meow 2016-01-09T02:51:48.000106Z

oh, you know I love abusing that parrot

meow 2016-01-09T02:52:22.000107Z

new app must have parrot head

rafd 2016-01-09T02:52:31.000108Z

ok, i'll add to feature list

rafd 2016-01-09T02:52:47.000109Z

aka "allow users to write their own plugins"

meow 2016-01-09T02:54:52.000110Z

the way I see it is that you've got a mountain of challenges ahead of you. But that's a good thing. You are exploring new territory here. Reminds me of when Ward Cunningham invented the wiki concept. Had never been done before. Now we have things like wikipedia.

meow 2016-01-09T02:56:57.000111Z

it was a super simple idea - allow the user to create content while viewing a page. Allow them to write something that turns into a link to a page that doesn't yet exist. When they click on that link, the page gets created and they can keep doing that over and over again

meow 2016-01-09T02:57:51.000112Z

the last time I followed what he was up to it seems like he was exploring stuff that kind of looks like what you've created

meow 2016-01-09T02:58:16.000113Z

that was years ago but are you familiar with Ward and his work?

meow 2016-01-09T02:58:36.000114Z

portland pattern repository

meow 2016-01-09T02:59:13.000115Z

ward cunningham federated wiki

rafd 2016-01-09T03:00:30.000116Z

...we'll see where the concept takes us! thanks for the inspiration

rafd 2016-01-09T03:00:48.000117Z

know about Ward and wiki origins, not the new stuff, will take a look

meow 2016-01-09T03:01:58.000118Z

do look at http://fed.wiki.org/

meow 2016-01-09T03:02:12.000119Z

lots of good ideas to borrow

rafd 2016-01-09T03:02:52.000120Z

ooooh, yes, i like; thanks

meow 2016-01-09T03:03:22.000121Z

Ward is the nicest guy. Met him at a pizza place before the very first O'Reilly Open Source Software Convention and then went to the Portland zoo with him and a small group of folks

rafd 2016-01-09T03:10:39.000124Z

i'm out for tonight, thanks for the feedback @meow

meow 2016-01-09T03:17:34.000125Z

good night

johanatan 2016-01-09T07:41:18.000126Z

@rafd: I have used GitHub issues for work items before to great effect. Just create an appropriate set of 'labels' and 'milestones' and you're set.

dumped some more thoughts in https://github.com/braidchat/braid/wiki/Motivation

rafd 2016-01-09T19:07:37.000131Z

i've been re-organizing my previous braid-related task dump (which is in Asana) and plan to move it to github soon
