@meow: invite sent, there probably aren't many active conversations, but if you post (and tag one) i should be able to reply
great, thanks
how do I tag one?
start typing # in the compose
@meow i've made a note it's not a very discoverable feature
I feel like I showed up for a party and can't find anyone, even the hosts. Did I get the date wrong? Is this the right address?
heh, yes, the first-time experience is lame; are you able to see my recent messages?
just made a cup of tea...
yes, I will read and respond there
@rafd: Okay, here's what I need to do. I need to stop looking at this as a slack-alike, which it isn't, and just look at it according to your design vision. So I'm going to watch your demo video and take another look before I start providing any kind of feedback.
thanks; it's meant to be used in similar cases (team chat), but it attempts to address the problem in a very different way
it's hard to get a good feel of it just by looking, because it's new/different; it's easier to evaluate a slack-alike when you know IRC, slack etc.
@rafd: Well, I think this is a good sign. I just watched your demo, which lasts only a few minutes. I had played with the live version and was kind of like "meh". Watched the demo and now I'm like "SOLD!"
@meow: woo! glad to hear
It's a really neat starting point. Very rough, which you know. But the idea is simple, clean, new, refreshing.
And that's really the hardest thing to get right. Without a good initial vision the rest doesn't matter.
well done
thank you for your kind words! this is the first place we've shown it outside of a few individuals
glad it has some glimmers of potential
...and i promise, no dancing parrots
I think it has more than just glimmers.
oh, you know I love abusing that parrot
new app must have parrot head
ok, i'll add to feature list
aka "allow users to write their own plugins"
the way I see it is that you've got a mountain of challenges ahead of you. But that's a good thing. You are exploring new territory here. Reminds me of when Ward Cunningham invented the wiki concept. Had never been done before. Now we have things like wikipedia.
it was a super simple idea - allow the user to create content while viewing a page. Allow them to write something that turns into a link to a page that doesn't yet exist. When they click on that link, the page gets created and they can keep doing that over and over again
the last time I followed what he was up to it seems like he was exploring stuff that kind of looks like what you've created
that was years ago but are you familiar with Ward and his work?
portland pattern repository
ward cunningham federated wiki
...we'll see where the concept takes us! thanks for the inspiration
know about Ward and wiki origins, not the new stuff, will take a look
do look at http://fed.wiki.org/
lots of good ideas to borrow
ooooh, yes, i like; thanks
Ward is the nicest guy. Met him at a pizza place before the very first O'Reilly Open Source Software Convention and then went to the Portland zoo with him and a small group of folks
re: https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/community-development/p1452308323000486 Braid is currently at 1% size of mattermost, a long way to go! /s
i'm out for tonight, thanks for the feedback @meow
good night
@rafd: I have used GitHub issues for work items before to great effect. Just create an appropriate set of 'labels' and 'milestones' and you're set.
dumped some more thoughts in https://github.com/braidchat/braid/wiki/Motivation
i've been re-organizing my previous braid-related task dump (which is in Asana) and plan to move it to github soon
