Java places huge store on backward compatibility so the breakage in 9 is (hopefully) a "once in a lifetime" thing. I can't remember any prior upgrade being that painful (and I started on 1.0... but perhaps time has dulled my memory of previous breakages? 🙂 )

@borkdude Just tried babashka, very nice! Finally I have a simple REPL at hand. All other installations failed due to stupid corporate restrictions.
