@ivar — cool! Must’ve been nuts. I’ve only heard stories, too young to remember.
I think there are loads of tech opportunities here, depends on what you want to do. From what I gather, the FP community is small, not to say non-existent (that’s why I thought to poke around on this channel). But on a higher-level, I think there’s a bit of everything — larger companies, smaller companies, SaaS companies, robotics companies, consultancies etc.
Hi @karl! I live in Tallinn - just moved here in August. I’ve been learning Clojure for a couple of years on and off.
I’m currently reading “The Joy of Clojure” and plan on working on a little side-project in Clojure.
Hey @sammy.castaneda90! That's awesome. I'm out for dinner at the moment but I will reply in a couple of hours. 🙂
enjoy your dinner 😄
I’m just starting work for the day.. (in Ruby 😐 )
I dunno anyone here would be interested, but we run a ‘remote meetup’ on Thursdays - http://www.timezonehelper.com/#!/PST8PDT/2018-01-11/18:00
if you have questions, just join #remote-meetup which is the affiliated slack channel
@sammy.castaneda90 back now!
@ivar afaik transferwise is always hiring, but it's a Java shop. I don't think we have any clojure projects there yet, but I'm working on it :D
Aha! You’re at TransferWise, @sammy.castaneda90 ?
Do they seem receptive to Clojure?
yup. Fun company. I moved here from Orlando.
Nice! Yes, they’re awesome. I had a chat with Kristo and Taavet a couple of years ago about joining. But I kinda turned them down. 😕
Each team decides for themselves what's appropriate. I've talked with my team about it, and they took it well. I just have to find a little project that would be appropriate
Well you can always try again
That’s pretty cool! Clojure benefits a fair amount by being on the JVM.
We’ll see how it goes. I’ve struck out on my own, trying to get a company off the ground.
@ivar, would love to join the meetup, but it’s be at 4am my time and it would kill me. 😄
