Good morning! I reached out to some old friends back in Greece and they cheered me up :) turns out everyone is pretty much feeling like shit but we’ve normalized putting on a brave face on social media.
@orestis hey, sorry to hear that, but also glad you’re telling us. This slack channel has been immensely valuable to me during pandemic/WFH, it has given me a place to do the friendly bantering/shooting the breeze that I need in my life. I spend way too much time on zoom talking to other people, but it’s all work and no play, so to speak. What I’ve also found, and each person is different, is that I need to feel physically fit to be happy. The pandemic has closed the arenas which I used to stay fit, so I’ve had to find others. I don’t know if it’s physically fit or physically tired that’s important, but whatever. So I have a friend who has a bouldering wall in his garage (I’ve been climbing forever) and I rigged by road bike on a pair of rollers, so I go for a “ride” every morning. I still miss talking to people, but getting into some sort of rythm seems to be very important to me. I believe (but I’m not good at it) sunshine is good for you. Have a longer lunch break when the sun is out. Make sure you profit from the benefits of WFH with a one year old daughter! Take off early from work, do something with her, if only going out and watching the ducks, and put in the time at work when she’s gone to bed.
Good morning @orestis!
Winter weekend mornings can be hard with small kids. They don’t care, they wake up when they feel like it, and they need someone to take care of them.
And just to do what we should not. This is how wonderful life can be. I spent the morning ski touring up our local ski hill before it’s opened. I’ll be back in time to eat breakfast with the family. Make sure you do something you enjoy today!
I’m a transplant to the north so the friluftsliv doesn’t come so natural 😅 - but I think I would be happier in a snowy place. I’ve skied twice in my life, it was fun!
I’m actually teaching myself piano in the evenings. I love how time slips away!
Yeah, and Denmark is not a great place for skiing. But I think having something else to focus on (like piano) and look forward to is super important.
I would be happier in a place where it never snows, for sure. Like Greece! I would love to live in Greece.
morning
good morning
Me too @pez, me too! But weather isn’t everything :(
Btw, it does rain and snow in Greece! It’s a very diverse country with lots of mountains. There’s even a few ski resorts...
I think I wouldn’t move to a ski resort in Greece. 😃
It’s pretty beautiful ☺️
I wish I could go skiing/snowboarding.
It's one of my little pleasures in life.
Well, now I’m just jealous. So-called “halcyon days” in Greece https://www.almanac.com/fact/halcyon-days-begin-the-halcyon-days-also-holiday
About winter solstice, here's a fun little puzzle my family sent me some days ago: Up to the Winter Solstice, days were shortening (fewer hours of daylight every day), and yet the Sun was setting later and later. How come?
Nope :)
Is it related to the place of the observer ? either in a north/south polar circle or in orbit ?
Is it related to the timezone near the north pole ?
No and no - this "sliding" of sunrise and sunset towards late hours happens basically all over the world (well, except of course for the northern polar circle).
I learned something 🙂
@emilien did you figure out the phenomenon? :)
I cheated and googled it!
