finally managed to upgrade to ubuntu 20.04.2 and my javafx is now working.
Anyone have suggestions for a data browser to use? rebl? portal? other?
portal uses no javafx
rebl does use javafx
ah, that explains why portal is working then 🙂
I might still have to fix my javafx problem then
well, still looking for data browser recommendations 😄
Maybe try a different jdk? adoptopenjdk? graalvm?
must be java 11 of course
I'm on openjdk 11 atm
I had no issues with running javafx under adoptopenjdk > 13, but it kinda depends on the version of the dependency of the particular app whether it works (on ubuntu 20.04)
didn't seem worth it when I was stuck on ubuntu 18.04
I'd foolishly forgotten about reveal https://vlaaad.github.io/reveal/#give-it-a-try
which also seems to work and is javafx
(from the look of the downloaded deps)
I like Portal better atm
It offers the same as Reveal, but the way it lays out the data works better for me.
(of course, usual caveats apply - what works for me, may not work for you, yada yada 🙂 )
And it works with #babashka :)
hmm maybe i should get out of my grumpy old man rut and try some of these new-fangled data browsers... might have made my debugging experience a bit nicer yesterday
what about portal vs rebl? (good to get even just "I liked this" experience reports)
@otfrom There is a Apropos Podcast (video really) about portal, might be nice to watch
