Hello guys!
Hi Robin. Nothing much usually happens in this channel. Probably quite similar for a lot of the other country channels.
Hi Cj
yeah, I agree very quite here
I guess it needs more active members here
In my experience usually particular country activity comes from MeetUps, that happen monthly, where people see each other face to face and gives talks.
I really come from Australia. I don't know that the whole 'Meetup' (or really just having special interest group clubs) thing is big in say Manila. You would probably know more...
Yeah, I've heard a clojure meetup before here in Phils, but it's on different island
Adelaide is too small for a Clojure group. Sydney just the right size, and most work in the city so it is easy for them to pop in after work. Free beers and that sort of thing help...
I was really interested that time
but it was too far from home
I hope there will some clojure meet ups again soon
Which island was it on? Is it still going?
it's in Vizayas, and I'm from Mindanao
nope
I think it was last year
but after that there's no more clojure meet up as far as I kno
Okay you are in Mindanao now. I'm in Manila. I have employed and worked with Filipinos in the past with Java.
ahh I see
that's cool
How do you find Filipino coders?
Hopefully one day it won't be Java but Clojure. Clojure ppl have to be self-starters I feel, like really quite keen. And that is a good thing if you are lucky enough to be in a position to employ people.
In my experience - all I would say is that next time I would check which University the person came from. It was my first time hiring and paid I some applicants to do some work, then picked the best one I thought.
Ah I see, I hope when that day comes, a lot of active members will come here
ahh that's good to hear
Yes - people who can think out of the box will be attracted to Clojure, do it as a hobby, then be great candidates, no matter which University they went to.
yeah, since the moment my mentor thought me of clojure I fell in love with it
I also do a clojure project for a hobby
Whereabouts in Mindanao are you?
but unfortunately I don't any have work using clojure
I'm from Davao City
currently, I'm back using PHP
because of work
No - it is even difficult in Sydney. Place to be would be the US - San Francisco say.
ahh right, I've heard many Clojure users too in UK
they have plenty of clojure meet ups before, from what I can remember
I still have a small business ticking over paying some bills. But essentially I'm a hobbyist at the moment too.
Yeah Russia, Israel, Europe all over people are picking it up. But Scala is better marketed to the corporate sector, it seems to me.
Hopefully in the Philippines, your country will skip the Scala 'phase'!
ah yes, I've heard Scala usually better in surveys compared to Clojure, but Clojure got the highest paid said on surveys too!
yeah, I hope Clojure will be a big thing here
I want to volunteer if there will some clojure meet ups 🙂
Hmm - but off a small base - and the people getting paid well are very experienced.
yeah I agree with that
I've given some talks at the Sydney one. Will be keen to meet up. If ever you are in Manila or I in Davao, we should meet up.
I'm gaining my experience at the moment with Untangled, recently renamed Fulcro.
ahh sure! I'll be glad to meet up people like you
