My employer is getting rid of our office, so lockdown or no lockdown won't make much difference to me

We're in the same boat. The lease on our office has not been renewed.

morning. I haven't worked at an office for almost a year now.

I wasn't keen on it when we started WFH last year (I still haven't got the hang of pair programming via zoom), but now I'm glad we're not going back

On the other hand, I'm currently working on trying to persuade people to hire me to write Clojure, which is not an option locally, so places switching to remote work is a plus from that point of view

Morning. We renewed the lease on our office (and I don’t quite understand why) but I don’t predict that we’ll all be going back there, given that lots of us, including me, have moved out of London in the past year.

I really didn't like wfh beforehand but now I don't think I'd want to go back to an office full time

I think a lot of it before was being the odd one out, as in, everyone else in the office and one person wfh means that one person misses out on most of the decisions/conversations

I've been working from home for the past few years, and I wasn't planning on going back to an office any time soon... It'll be nice to be able to go for a sandwich and a coffee for lunch, or a movie or gig in the evening though!

Yeah, when the interaction is mainly in-person, being remote doesn't work well. In the last job I had on an office half of the team was in another office, so we used to pair in the phone half of the time, and stand-ups, retros, etc. were on the phone, and it worked quite well.

i've been working from home/an office of my choosing for a couple of years, i'll probably start going back into my shared office mon/fri but def not full time

flexible work is great , don't wanna miss the friday evenings piss up

my travel time to the office is ~2hrs... the homeward journey makes friday evening piss ups a lot less attractive

yeah when you're in london, you get drunk and then spend two hours on the pendolino regretting the decision

still, the ride home from stockport was usually brisk

it was ace, but i think they had planned on making their money on the food and AFAICT it was just people buying lager

i ordered mead but i imagine their margins on that weren't great

It's still going on a bit, but hopefully it wont spark any volcanoes! I want to get back to the UK next month

this was my experience too, I was mainly working in a Manchester office for a company with pretty much everyone else in London, totally changed after lockdown

Re: remote - I've been 100% remote for about 13 years now. Current company has been 100% remote for nearly a decade. Several staff moved back home to Europe from California and no one actually noticed for months!
