@neumann @nate any microphone recommendations for podcasting?

nate 2019-07-29T14:08:03.057800Z

Definitely. We use Blue Yetis (I have the regular and @neumann has the pro).

I love the simplicity of plugging in a usb cable and going.

thanks!

I also picked up https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FQB3DD8/ and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BPELU68/

They've both complemented the Yeti well.

Also, some non-mic factors to consider....

neumann 2019-07-29T16:04:28.061400Z

- Record in a room with the least number of hard surfaces. Clothes closets work amazingly well. Interestingly enough, so do cars.

- Distance from the mic matters a lot. My preference is to use lower gain and be closer to the mic. The closer you are, the more you pick up non-verbal noises like breathing and lip smacking, but then it also sounds a lot more present and clear.

neumann 2019-07-29T16:06:05.061800Z

I'm about 6 inches away from my mic.

- Record each voice separately so you can post-process each one. We do a pass with a noise gate and a compressor.

neumann 2019-07-29T16:07:46.062200Z

I'd say the compressor is absolutely essential. It's how we get good balance between the voices and a consistent volume.

neumann 2019-07-29T16:08:03.062400Z

I'm always happy to share specific settings and such.

We use Audacity.
