@here It would seem that SkillsMatter is no more and gone into financial administration, so yes hold off on booking any travel.

That is sad news.

I am trying to find out if there is a contact that attendees and speakers can contact about this situation. However I suspect any refund for tickets or travel (for speakers) is unlikely.

What will happen to all the videos that were recorded for all the meet-ups and the past confs?

They were all behind “a sign up wall“, but now I suppose they can be released on YouTube without any constraints?

Well the worry - which I really hope doesn’t come true - is that they’ll all disappear when Skills Matter stop paying the bills…

There’s a ton of useful stuff that’s in those video’s built over a fairly long time… That’s a pretty big blow to the community if so…

Just looking at a sample of clojureX 2018 most of the videos appear to be down…

Ah, keeping an archive of those was not even on my radar :(…

Nice touch. I wonder if they’d be willing to let you come to their office with a rather large USB stick or ten and let you copy the videos so that you can upload them to YouTube or similar service…

The videos seem to be hosted on vimeo, hopefully they can be recovered from there in some way.

But Vimeo doesn’t seem to acknowledge the existence of that video…

Oh I really hope they weren’t deleted…

I would rather think they’re part of IP that belongs to SkillsMatter and that it’s to be sold to whoever buys the remains?

I think that the way videos were embedded in the HTML pages on SkillsMatter website, the direct Vimeo URL was “hidden” is some way, so that you could only watch the video, while on SkillsMatter website… So my guess is that the videos are still somewhere on Vimeo’s servers, just maybe no longer accessible for viewing, possibly because SkillsMatter didn’t pay the bills…

I expect that, but things get lost in transition’s too…

I sent an e-mail demanding a refund so we’ll see what happens.

@jr0cket any chance of getting an alternative location and still go ahead with the conference?

FWIW I’d be up for speaking at a different time/place, although all talk preps are on hold for now.

@cfeckardt if someone would like to pay me to organise a replacement conference, then happy to discuss. Otherwise, I am afraid I have a lot of my own work to do for the next couple of months and putting together such a replacement would require significant time.

If anyone does have the time to organise a replacement, then happy to forward any info I have.
