I’ve created a page for 100 tickets on Eventbrite, don’t publish it anywhere just yet, this is just to see who would commit and come to the conf: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/clojure-conference-london-clojurex-revival-tickets-81016794413 Obviously this is just for this channel. The info about the event doesn’t have the venue details, but once we have a venue confirmed, we can update it.

reborg 2019-11-09T08:51:13.312700Z

Cool! Maybe we should avoid mentioning clojureX explicitly (or I’m just paranoid)

dharrigan 2019-11-09T09:12:20.314Z

A check with the administrators to see if there is any "ownership" over the name?

dharrigan 2019-11-09T09:13:15.314600Z

I don't think there could be, since CodeNode/Skillsmater didn't come up with the name?

reborg 2019-11-09T09:32:55.315400Z

Even if we are free to use it, should it be connected (in the long term?) It is definitely connected this time.

matttylr 2019-11-09T09:42:22.316700Z

"ClojureY - the event formerly known as Clojure eXchange" ?

🙂 1
practicalli-john 2019-11-10T08:46:05.352900Z

Please avoid using anything that suggests any connection to the SkillsMatter conference, to avoid potential lawsuits. So similar names or the use of Exchange should be avoided. You have no idea who will buy SkillsMatter and what they may pursue. This conference should avoid being pitched as a replacement or alternative, as this also infers a connection. Pitch it as a new conference that is taking place.

matttylr 2019-11-10T10:31:37.358700Z

Yes, good advice, thanks John

reborg 2019-11-10T12:45:05.361600Z

@dotemacs when you have a second, can you remove “clojurex”, “exchange” etc from the eventbrite? Just put clojure conference for the moment. Any link between them is implicitly clear anyway.

dotemacs 2019-11-10T12:57:33.362200Z

Will do Done @reborg

reborg 2019-11-09T09:45:10.317Z

That sounds good to me

reborg 2019-11-09T09:45:43.317100Z

I’ve collected the following so far: Clojure-Ldn Clojure-London Clojurians Conference ClojureY (credit AlexMiller) Clojure Community Exchange 2019 (credit Clément) Cloju Re-X (credit flefik)

reborg 2019-11-09T09:51:27.317700Z

I like ClojureY, as successor to “X” and the link to the Y-combinator. It is short and projects well into a logo (if ever we want one). Actually, Y is sorta λ in reverse.

reborg 2019-11-09T09:52:41.318Z

So even Clojure-λ or Cλojure.

reborg 2019-11-09T09:56:51.318800Z

Thinking of the reverse “y”, a SEO & logo-ready version would be Cλojure

3Jane 2019-11-09T12:12:59.319200Z

has there been any discussion as to how much the tickets for the community conf are going to be?

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:26:51.320700Z

What about • parens.london (seeing as the domain is available) • parens conf

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:34:30.321400Z

• in-ns ‘london

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:35:24.322100Z

• defconf.london

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:39:02.322600Z

• fnconf - fnconf.london

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:53:21.323600Z

• keeping it 🇬🇧: sorted-conf

Jcaw 2019-11-09T12:54:22.324600Z

I wouldn't say it's the same event

Jcaw 2019-11-09T12:54:28.324800Z

I'd explicitly say it's a replacement

dotemacs 2019-11-09T12:55:50.325700Z

That’s why we’re coming up with a different name for it

Jcaw 2019-11-09T12:57:46.325900Z

What I mean is, I wouldn't say "the event formally known as ClojureX"

reborg 2019-11-09T13:45:49.326100Z

Agree with the sentiment above. It’s definitely starting as a replacement for the first year, but the organization starts from a completely different mindset (e.g. free conf without link to a profit organization apart from sponsors). A little bit like that first Euroclojure in London.

Clément 2019-11-09T14:12:56.328800Z

With four companies willing to help with the cost we could aim to go for free, or £1/5 as to have a minimal attendance commitment?

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:13:08.329200Z

If we’re going for re-use the suffix ‘X’, maybe we can go for: cloju:t-rex: that way we can register the emoji domain cloju:t-rex:.ws

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:16:23.329400Z

The domain is available: https://xn--i-7iq.ws/emojidomain/cloju%F0%9F%A6%96

reborg 2019-11-09T14:18:20.329700Z

Interesting, but I’d probably keep it simple. So far, my fav is clojureY (it can read both “clojurey” or “clojure-y”, domain available, SEO friendly, short, type fast, mnemonic etc.)

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:20:37.329900Z

clojureλ - with the ‘λ’ can be registered also https://xn--i-7iq.ws/emojidomain/clojure%CE%BB

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:23:06.330200Z

You know ‘λ’ is a letter ‘l’, so why not that suggestion of yours @reborg of Cλojure ? The domain for that is also available, but with a TLD of .ws: https://xn--i-7iq.ws/emojidomain/c%CE%BBojure

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:25:06.330500Z

And clojure.london domain is also available

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:26:45.330800Z

I’m hoping for £ nil

reborg 2019-11-09T14:27:18.331200Z

Bit scared of the emoji thing (for portability, a github repo for example). But it could be full name “clojure-lambda” (for any portability) and Cλojure/Clojureλ as logo brand etc.

dotemacs 2019-11-09T14:28:40.331400Z

Maybe just go for clojure.london as the domain, github repo… but the logo can be: Cλojure λondon

reborg 2019-11-09T14:29:09.331700Z

nice

reborg 2019-11-09T14:31:18.331900Z

Or pedantically Cλojure Λondon 😁

reborg 2019-11-09T14:32:22.332100Z

But lowercase lambda is the best, for the strong relationship with the calculus

👍 1
reborg 2019-11-09T14:51:49.332500Z

It should be free IMHO. There are people who actually paid a ticket for this and they don’t know when they are going to see their money back. The attendance commitment metric is useful, but given we can afford a venue for 150-200 I don’t think we risk overcrowding. The eventbrite page also has a top limit of 100 which is probably good to start with.

Jcaw 2019-11-09T14:57:33.332800Z

I thought about "ReClojure"

matttylr 2019-11-09T14:57:49.333Z

Clojure.london is a good brand to go forward with

Jcaw 2019-11-09T15:02:15.333300Z

If it is free, make sure the original attendees' spaces are reserved

reborg 2019-11-09T15:06:32.333600Z

fair point

Jcaw 2019-11-09T15:07:58.333800Z

Could just call it "Cλojure" and pronounce it "lambda con". Surprisingly, there's Google space for that.

reborg 2019-11-09T15:08:01.334Z

so while the 100 eventbrite tickets are “on sale” we can account for 75 additional people who could join anyway (it looks like that list is nowhere available unfortunately)

reborg 2019-11-09T15:08:39.334200Z

there’s a known labdaconf tho, which is very close

Jcaw 2019-11-09T15:09:04.334400Z

Ah damn

reborg 2019-11-09T15:16:20.337100Z

There is probably enough choice to go for a poll to pick the name for the conf. The result should at least give an orientation toward 2-3 choices. If more ideas are coming in (and time permitting) we can add them to the list and recast votes: https://doodle.com/poll/7ths9keqxrqiwnyw

Jcaw 2019-11-09T15:18:18.337600Z

What about "The Immutable Conference" :face_with_cowboy_hat:

reborg 2019-11-09T15:21:09.338Z

On our side, I guess people with a ticket will keep an eye on any news regarding the conf, including our effort as soon as we are ready to push things live. If we can’t get to them, hopefully they’ll get to us.

👍 1
reborg 2019-11-09T15:22:37.338200Z

Immortal… it does not want to die :)

3Jane 2019-11-09T15:48:42.340Z

If they notify attendees, they should at least be willing to put up a poster on the day, “Alternative conference happening at place XYZ”

3Jane 2019-11-09T15:50:40.341800Z

Re ticket situation, that’s why I asked, I got a ticket via a work scheme, and getting that refunded and redirected to alternative conference will likely take ages if at all

3Jane 2019-11-09T15:51:11.342800Z

It’s a bit of a shame it’s such a short notice, but skillsmatter people couldn’t have helped it

reborg 2019-11-09T15:56:32.345100Z

That would be nice. But I’m not sure what’s going on at SM these days, if there are people working at all and if the administrator is interested in shutting down things gradually.

reborg 2019-11-09T16:00:01.346400Z

They are searching for new investors/owners and if any they’ll need to decide what to do with the assets. Maybe every conf will be up and running next year, but unlikely this December

reborg 2019-11-09T16:05:23.346500Z

sorry to hear @lady3janepl and like you others in the same situation.

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:32:19.346700Z

Are you sure you want to focus this as London? It's often complained that London is like a black hole that sucks all into it. After all, we don't have Clojure Paris, or Clojure Berlin

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:32:31.346900Z

Having London sorta is "elitist"

reborg 2019-11-09T16:34:15.347100Z

Fair point

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:35:17.347300Z

(not= London clojurists-in-the-uk)

reborg 2019-11-09T16:35:30.347600Z

Hopefully this conf could be hosted in Bristol (or anywhere else UK) next year. It’s true that ClojureD is always in Berlin, Dutch Clj Days in Amsterdam etc.

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:35:54.347800Z

True true, so I would perfer something non-londony in the name

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:36:05.348Z

and I really like that idea of a moving conference

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:36:28.348200Z

London, Bristol, Glasgow, Scunthorpe 🙂

reborg 2019-11-09T16:36:32.348400Z

Cool, so perhaps names without london in it

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:40:31.348600Z

Ah, the age old problem of naming things - one of the most difficult things to do in programming 🙂

reborg 2019-11-09T16:41:28.348800Z

right, hopefully nothing to cache with this conference

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:45:59.349Z

I quite like the Clojure Community Exchange name

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:46:52.349200Z

http://cce2019.org/com/net etc.. are all free

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:47:08.349400Z

and cce2020 etc..

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:47:17.349600Z

not sure how sustainable that is however.

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:48:00.349800Z

cce.dev is free

reborg 2019-11-09T16:48:57.350Z

not bad, for me clojureY remains more catchy

dharrigan 2019-11-09T16:49:10.350200Z

that's good too

dharrigan 2019-11-09T17:06:17.350400Z

how about a variant of reClojure as re:Clojure

reborg 2019-11-09T17:08:47.350900Z

added the option. How is that playing with urls?

Jcaw 2019-11-09T17:33:48.351100Z

@dharrigan I was also thinking of breaking it up like that

dotemacs 2019-11-09T17:51:40.351600Z

REPL conf?

matttylr 2019-11-09T17:56:49.351800Z

I agree with the sentiment about not wanting it to be perceived as london centric, however when it’s in Bristol it could be Clojure-Bristol and so on. Could be a series of conferences over the years visiting different cities. Interestingly the domain http://clojure.uk is available… that could be the parent, e.g http://bristol.clojure.uk, just thinking aloud…
