I guess they could create lots of temporary channels

yeah, it'll be slightly clunky with replies from IRC channels.

Maybe if you had a unique reference point to "reply" to, that would also work. but also not a great solution

Yeah, I've always respected that.

Although I chose Slack when I started Clojurians, I'm still a big fan of IRC to be fair and have used it everyday for over 20 years 😕 #contradiction

I think you still got a lot of people using this slack than might have made it onto the IRC channels #justsaying 🙂
