Anyone else moving from Oracle Java 8 to OpenJDK? - https://twitter.com/RealGeneKim/status/1032628188713603072 - https://www.aspera.com/en/blog/oracle-will-charge-for-java-starting-in-2019/
No more free updates to Oracle Java 8 after January 2019. Given that Java 11 is already in early access, that seems reasonable to me.
But, to answer your question, yeah, I suspect when we next update Java on our systems we'll switch to OpenJDK. We don't use anything that requires the licensed version anyway, as I understand it.
Java 11 is the next LTS, yes?
@mexisme Yes, every third version will be LTS as I understand it. 8, 11, 14, 17... with the intermediate versions appearing every six months and support ending for each as the new version appears.
