Job hunting, interview process and anything related to the experience of a job writing the Clojure language.

hey y’all, a little while ago I mentioned that I’m overhauling the Brave Clojure Jobs job board. I got a lot of great feedback on it and think I’m Very Close:tm: to launching it 🙂 Would anyone want to have another look at it and share feedback? I’ve made a lot of changes based on the last round of feedback (like making it possible to invite others to manage your company’s ads) and would really appreciate y’all kicking the tires and seeing what’s broken or confusing (or what’s good): https://jobs-staging.braveclojure.com/ My hope is that this will become a valuable resource for everyone in the Clojure community, not just by making hiring and job-finding easier, but by showing people interested in learning the language that yes, you can definitely get paid to write Clojure

From a quick browse, the only thing that's not better than before is that it's harder to see where things are based, and if they're remote or not. E.g. on the old version, I can see on the home page that Fy! is "remote", and "London +/- 2 hrs CET". On the new version I can't see any of that on the home page, and if I open the listing, I can see "London", but not that it's remote.

thanks! that's helpful. this is in part a failure of the import script I wrote, but even if the remote data had been imported correctly it wouldn't be as easily noticeable as it is on the old site. i'll probably change that, thanks again

Thank you!

as a user of the board would be nice to have some measure of staleness of the ad. For example, I know some companies that keep open positions for engineers at all times, but some others have specific demands and close the recruitment process as soon as they hire

could you say more? the ads have the date they were posted, is there some other kind of info that would be helpful?

currently view is great already, but this is a question I always have when I see job ads. If you posted 1month ago, are you still interested to hire? I don't know. I always assume yes and try to reach out. But adding an extra work for the job poster to update the ad from time to time would be nice. Some way to express "we are still welcoming applications".

sorry for not being able to provide more direct path forward. This is just a shortcoming that I notice in almost all job boards around

Imagine I spent 1h writing some introduction letter to the company to receive an automatic email 10 min later saying "We appreciate the attempt but are not hiring at this time".

the fact slack is deleting the messages here is also fixing this issue because we agreed on an etiquette of not spamming the same job ad every day, but we do have some recurrent posts to keep it fresh and visible.

got it. i've thought of one way to kind of address this. one of the features of the new site is that companies can easily import their listings from greenhouse, workable, etc. eventually I want to have the system unpublish ads if they're removed from the source they were imported from. maybe another option would be to require some action on ads to keep displaying them after a set time period

What do you imagine a OO system design interview segment for a clojure job would involve?

I can’t imagine… That sounds really… odd. Can you provide a bit more context/background @drewverlee?
