pupeno 2015-10-14T08:35:34.000190Z

Good morning.

jamiei 2015-10-14T08:42:42.000191Z

Morning

korny 2015-10-14T09:11:31.000193Z

moaning

xlevus 2015-10-14T09:12:19.000194Z

@korny: have you been talking to my stomach? That's all it's done today.

maleghast 2015-10-14T09:14:32.000195Z

Hello London Clojurians - how’s ‘Ole Blighty today..?

xlevus 2015-10-14T09:15:50.000196Z

sunny and cold

agile_geek 2015-10-14T09:19:32.000197Z

It was dark and cold when I cycled to work this morning so it’s improved!

xlevus 2015-10-14T09:20:35.000198Z

sounds like somebody's a basement worker.

agile_geek 2015-10-14T09:22:15.000199Z

no just an early starter…the sun had not risen

jonpither 2015-10-14T09:25:55.000200Z

morning

korny 2015-10-14T09:31:54.000201Z

Ow - that’s too early. I just got better lights as it’s dark when I get home, but thankfully I don’t have to leave home until 7:45

korny 2015-10-14T09:33:37.000202Z

(I really miss my Melbourne commute, where I had to leave by 8:30, cycled along the river to work, and the days were never as stpidly short as here)

agile_geek 2015-10-14T09:46:08.000203Z

The many disadvantages of higher latitude…North or South. Mind I love having an extra 45 mins daylight in the Summer compared with London when I’m at home in Newcastle…not so good in winter of course!

pupeno 2015-10-14T09:48:45.000204Z

I tend to enjoy both, early and late sunsets. But then again, I never had a long commute in the dark.

gjnoonan 2015-10-14T10:00:05.000205Z

My commute is about an hour up here in the north (depending on traffic), one thing I have discovered recently is that It feels so alien driving in the dark .. Not done it for awhile

gjnoonan 2015-10-14T10:00:35.000206Z

At a previous job I used to have to leave at 0500, and wasn’t home until around 2330, so all I did was driving in the dark

gjnoonan 2015-10-14T10:00:55.000207Z

but sunsets are beautiful

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:04:00.000208Z

@gjnoonan: wow, and I thought I got up early and did long days! Did you work down the salt mines!

frankiesardo 2015-10-14T10:05:58.000209Z

morning all

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:06:22.000210Z

@jonpither: Hello there; long time no chat

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:06:58.000211Z

I don’t miss long commutes - I have a 7 minute walk at the moment

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:07:01.000212Z

dont want to rub it in but my commute is around 13 seconds. Leaving the house seems like such a chore now

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:07:09.000213Z

Almost the best thing about my current job though 😞

gjnoonan 2015-10-14T10:07:12.000214Z

@agile_geek: ha kind of, I moonlighted in Mental health at a hospital/institution.. Still in the habit of long days and being up early though, had around 1hr 30mins sleep last night 😕

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:07:44.000215Z

Oh… if we are going to show off...

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:08:12.000216Z

@gjnoonan: I used to only get that much sleep until my early 30s, but it was killing me / not good for me, so I went on a full on mission to change my sleep cycle now I am an 8 hour sleeper, when I get the chance anyway

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:08:17.000217Z

@afhammad: I used to use my commute as exercise. Cycling 10 miles each way everyday. Don’t cycle so often down here.

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:08:58.000218Z

I have a 20 second commute.

quentin 2015-10-14T10:08:58.000219Z

@agile_geek: I am using my commute the same way, good warm up before workday

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:11:54.000220Z

@agile_geek, @quentin: yeh thats smart, I got myself a TRX set recently, attached to a door to force myself to work out when i need a break.

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:12:08.000221Z

@agile_geek: @quentin I miss my pre / post work cycling too...

korny 2015-10-14T10:12:14.000222Z

Sigh. 70 minute commute here - 45 minutes train, 20 minutes cycling. At least I’m getting lots of exercise!

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:12:36.000223Z

@korny: And presumably a nice chunk of reading on the train, no?

korny 2015-10-14T10:12:45.000224Z

And there’s a big thread at work on remote working, so I can dream of a better future

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:12:54.000225Z

I do miss how much reading I could do when I had 2 train rides a day 😉

quentin 2015-10-14T10:13:01.000226Z

maleghast: you can still do it if you want 😉

korny 2015-10-14T10:13:06.000227Z

@maleghast: yep, love the reading time - I’d hate to do the same in a car

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:13:28.000228Z

@quentin: I am 7 minutes walk__ from the office in one of the most dangerous cycling cities in the WORLD

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:13:36.000229Z

I recently got myself a free standing punching bag that I put against a wall with some foam behind it. Not sure how many offices have the space for it but it doesn’t actually require a lot. Taking breaks and doing some punching feels good.

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:13:39.000230Z

short answer - no I couldn't

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:13:57.000231Z

@korny: audiobooks!

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:14:00.000232Z

@pupeno: That is something we need in my office

xlevus 2015-10-14T10:14:24.000233Z

@maleghast: interns work just as well :P

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:14:31.000234Z

@korny: I am NEVER going to commute by car ever again if I can help it

korny 2015-10-14T10:14:35.000235Z

@pupeno: I used to do that, and podcasts, but it’s not the same

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:14:48.000236Z

@pupeno: 😄 I used to use an empty office in one of companies I worked for to do Karate Kata in when taking a break…got some funny looks tho!

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:14:49.000237Z

@pupeno: sounds fun, mind linking me to one of those online?

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:15:00.000238Z

@xlevus: No interns at the moment, just members of staff, and even here in the Philippines, punching the staff is seen as inappropriate

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:15:01.000239Z

@maleghast: it was surprisingly affordable.

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:15:10.000240Z

@agile_geek: you do karate?

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:15:19.000241Z

@afhammad: what do you mean?

korny 2015-10-14T10:15:23.000242Z

@maleghast: dangerous city = London? I find my city cycling is OK, as long as I stay on back streets

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:15:33.000243Z

@korny: No, Manila

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:15:34.000244Z

@pupeno: used to, Shotokan and Go-Ryu

korny 2015-10-14T10:15:42.000245Z

ah, that makes sense

maleghast 2015-10-14T10:15:45.000246Z

hehe

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:15:48.000247Z

@pupeno: the punching bag

xlevus 2015-10-14T10:16:12.000248Z

@agile_geek: in London, or up norf'?

xlevus 2015-10-14T10:17:20.000249Z

Trying to find a Dojo here. They're all pretty shitty sounding. One advertised having black belts as young as 4 years old. Ugh.

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:17:57.000251Z

@afhammad: I got this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NLDZBUM I got this gloves but I’m not happy with them: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVO-Leather-combat-Gloves-Martial/dp/B00SI4TWE0/ref=pd_sim_200_2 and I bought 45kg of sand from Argos: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3650574.htm

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:17:59.000252Z

@xlevus: Karate? In and around Newcastle (I was briefly a Sensei)

xlevus 2015-10-14T10:18:19.000254Z

Osu!

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:18:41.000255Z

The sand was slightly wet, which I felt was cheating when you sell it by kg, but I cared about weight, not volume anyway. I found 45kg to be the bare minimum.

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:18:59.000256Z

Putting the sand in was really messy.

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:19:49.000257Z

@pupeno: thanks. yeh no room for that here, sadly my office is in the living room, wife would not approve of such an ornament

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:20:10.000258Z

One of my partners got these gloves: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00SJ6391O?ref_=pd_ybh_18 which I think are better.

afhammad 2015-10-14T10:21:15.000260Z

@agile_geek: when are you going start a Karate dojo? agile sensei.

pupeno 2015-10-14T10:21:28.000261Z

We do have it in the livingroom and I use http://www.amazon.co.uk/Interlocking-Black-Soft-Exercise-Floor/dp/B005F3AEI0/ref=sr_1_13 to protect the floor and wall.

agile_geek 2015-10-14T10:22:18.000263Z

@afhammad: been 10 years since I trained. Don’t think joints could take stress anymore!

xlevus 2015-10-14T10:23:08.000264Z

RIP knees.

korny 2015-10-14T10:28:44.000265Z

I’ll stick to cycling. And code dojos.

agile_geek 2015-10-14T13:18:08.000266Z

@korny: 😄
