Morning. I am frazzled this morning. Too much to organise and to little time to do it! How are you folks?

thomas 2016-02-16T09:22:47.000010Z

Morning...

thomas 2016-02-16T09:23:22.000011Z

fine… WAH today as it is half term… which means I have to be an art critic as well today.

Mornings

2016-02-16T10:41:53.000013Z

Not that chipper myself. Still stuck in an Angular hell. I’m an FP developer, get me out of here!!

2016-02-16T10:51:13.000015Z

@agile_geek: get your lappy working in the end?

mccraigmccraig 2016-02-16T10:54:18.000016Z

heyyall

agile_geek 2016-02-16T10:56:12.000017Z

@paulspencerwilliams no. The opposite. It's now not even booting up for any OS. I am away from home for 2 weeks so no chance to fix it as I don't have access to a wired internet connection.

glenjamin 2016-02-16T10:58:48.000018Z

anyone else find the policing of the channel-formerly-known-as-general more distracting than posts in a general channel?

agile_geek 2016-02-16T11:13:44.000020Z

@glenjamin: yes. I am also very uncomfortable with the conversations going on in the community-development channel around the code of conduct.

martintrojer 2016-02-16T11:26:17.000023Z

all that clojure

benedek 2016-02-16T11:27:48.000024Z

sad times

thomas 2016-02-16T11:30:56.000025Z

very sad indeed…. and only a few months ago they were still recruiting 😞

martintrojer 2016-02-16T11:30:59.000026Z

hopefully 10 new awesome Clojure startups will now form in Bristol

martintrojer 2016-02-16T11:31:21.000028Z

or was it Brighton?

martintrojer 2016-02-16T11:31:23.000029Z

one of the Bs.

minimal 2016-02-16T11:31:30.000030Z

Bristol

minimal 2016-02-16T11:32:32.000031Z

Shame, met them at FPX where they were recruiting too

2016-02-16T11:38:23.000032Z

I saw a recruitment advert for them over the last couple of days!

minimal 2016-02-16T11:39:09.000033Z

ouch

agile_geek 2016-02-16T11:46:59.000034Z

This is the second company recently (or is it the third?) that has used Clojure and closed down...I worry it's a jinx. The other one I can think of is Prismatic.

thomas 2016-02-16T11:47:54.000035Z

Prismatic is pivoting… not closing down. (I think)

benedek 2016-02-16T11:47:58.000036Z

or if you look at this from an other angle: shows clj is more widespread as community is sometimes hit by company shut downs...

benedek 2016-02-16T11:48:21.000037Z

being extreme positive here. feels weird too…

thomas 2016-02-16T11:50:01.000038Z

true.. regardless of the technology used a company can go bust.

thomas 2016-02-16T11:50:26.000039Z

sometimes it helps (wordperfect) though.

agile_geek 2016-02-16T12:03:51.000040Z

I wonder if it's actually the greater use by startups for competitive advantage that means the risk of going bust is higher?

gjnoonan 2016-02-16T13:09:58.000041Z

@glenjamin: agreed re the policing of the Chanel, it is not sanctioned, it is distracting, and it is being looked into 👍

glenjamin 2016-02-16T13:10:39.000042Z

the rename to “announce-to-everyone” was a good move imo, as it’s not “don’t use this”, it’s just “this is what will happen"

annapawlicka 2016-02-16T16:47:48.000043Z

@agile_geek: Walmart is using clj and I don’t think they’re going bust anytime soon 😉

probably some selection bias as well, I know i’m not watching the news about companies that use Scala
