seeing https://github.com/portkey-cloud/edn-to-cfn/issues/2, I remember trying out generating Cloudformation YAML with these short forms like !Ref xyz, which seem to be called “tags” in Yaml

from what I remember, had to go through some hoops of the Java API in snakeyaml to read and output those short forms: https://bitbucket.org/asomov/snakeyaml/wiki/Documentation#markdown-header-tags
