Sunday Evening Drinks > After the tour, around 17:30, and still open to all, you are most welcome to join us for a friendly chat and drinks at a local pub. We will be meeting in front of the National Gallery entrance located at Trafalgar Square (https://goo.gl/maps/Eq16UesTXmcm9RK36). I won't be able to make 5.30 rendez-vous, but am interested in coming out on Sunday evening are you going to publish where everyone has gone on this group?
Yes, we’ll publish here. We don’t have a choice yet for the place, likely around Trafalgar where the tour finishes. Actually, suggestions welcome.
But definitely, feel free to join anytime :)
The same here, I’m attending some birthday party, which I only found out that is being held in the afternoon, so I won’t be able to make the walk. But I’ll be coming to the drinks for sure!
oooh I suggest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Cross_Tavern
passed it by lots of times
only passed though its doors once
Seems as good as place as any 🙂
I won't be on the tour or drinks - I'm out in the sticks and since I'm at the conference all day on Monday, one has to make tradeoffs (with the family!)
bring the family of course!
:)
Extremely unlikely, given one of them is 2 years old 🙂
@ben.hammond thanks for the suggestion, will browse a bit. I should be there (but skipping the tour)
Would people be interested in a #conjure (Clojure in Neovim) informal workshop and demo at some point during the day? Maybe in the breakout hacking area? (That space is a fantastic idea!) I'll probably also head to the pub on Sunday to say hi and preach the cult of :wq.
From other thread: "I'm thinking 1:10ish during the pizza party for half an hour?"
@olical I can see if we can get a display to the hacking room. I’d avoid using the main room at lunch time, as with ~150 people inside you’d struggle hearing a word and at the same time, I’d let people free of socializing away instead of asking for silence
just thinking about it, so maybe there are other solutions
Yeah, I was thinking the hacking room, doubt there will be toooo many people anyway. If there's no display that's okay, I can just talk about it and have people get it running on their own laptops.
Just checking, I remember the venue talking about a rolling TV stand.
it could be good to have anyway, for any other hacking display purposes 😬
ah Bummer they don’t.
let me talk with the organizers and see
I was originally going to talk about this at Clojure eXchange but changed my mind when it fell through due to being overworked. A little workshop would be okay though!
Your contribution would be awesome Oliver!
We could advertise it, and if people are interested, they could put their name down?
I'm thinking 1:10ish during the pizza party for half an hour?
I know a few places around there
This is quite nice, and probably not busy on a Monday
They do both beer and wine
Next to it is the Golden Lion for a larger crowd which is a typical Greenes
the good thing about it is it spills out into the alleyway so it can accommodate a large number of people
And there is also Blue Posts https://www.google.com/maps/place/Blue+Posts/@51.5069625,-0.1400222,16.97z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sblue!3m4!1s0x0:0x8b17e94d52ee3429!8m2!3d51.5069236!4d-0.140537 That one might be the best choice as it’s very spacious
I'm always interested in seeing other folk's workflows
Cursive is nice, but there's always that itch...
If we head the other direction north/northeast from Leicester there are many good options too, but they will be quite a bit busier
Sure! If there's no interest, no biggie. Was just going to do something small and informal. A kinda demo with help getting it running and how to use it.
Not sure what numbers to expect so we could keep a few options open and decide based on the crowd at the moment. We could keep a list of these nice suggestions and the phone number handy (in case we want to check before moving). IMHO the best place is not too noisy/crowdy and typical english
Gordon’s wine bar is cool too but it might not fit too large a crew https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gordon's+Wine+Bar/@51.5078711,-0.1234043,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipPdn7PpdVS97Z0g3WZxIpTDs75hd9L9gXEAa1Q-!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipPdn7PpdVS97Z0g3WZxIpTDs75hd9L9gXEAa1Q-%3Dw152-h86-k-no!7i1280!8i720!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sblue!3m4!1s0x487604ceccc06b49:0x44935b1432029769!8m2!3d51.5079441!4d-0.1233139
Hah, well I'll be more than happy to show the workflow, I think it's pretty neat but I would say that. Hopefully I can help others get it running too, blog post about that here https://oli.me.uk/getting-started-with-clojure-neovim-and-conjure-in-minutes/

The conference is there for the community, so if you’re keen to show off your “lightsabre”, then by all means go for it! 🙂
@olical ☝️
I know of at least two people going who would be very excited to see that
