While off topic, yesterday it looks like there was some chat about Bend, OR. My wife and I are considering moving there next spring from the DC area and I’ve been trying to find out what the Clojure community might be there. Most I found was there was a team at a company called Navis.

@kingoftheknoll Navis is where untangled is developed

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T03:24:45.000048Z

And more or less the only source of a clojure community

2016-08-31T03:26:49.000049Z

Oh! Very cool 😃

2016-08-31T03:26:59.000050Z

how big is the team at Navis?

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T03:55:52.000051Z

8 or 10 I think. We have been trying to migrate folks over the the light side of the force

2016-08-31T03:56:52.000052Z

lol good luck and major props for getting a team setup.

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:02:20.000053Z

Thanks! If you move to Bend, or visit, feel free to get in touch. I try to spend my lunches bouldering (when I can).

2016-08-31T04:04:51.000054Z

Totes jelly… See as an avid climber that’s why I’ve got to get out of DC lol. I’m pretty much done with big city life. Wife and I are planning a visit in Jan, will totally hit you up.

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:05:59.000055Z

Lot’s of bouldering in town. And of course there is smith rocks if you feel the need to hang draws or plug cams.

2016-08-31T04:06:28.000056Z

Yeah I saw it was only a few miles out of town

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:06:33.000057Z

The stone takes some getting used to though. I am originally from NC, though

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:06:42.000058Z

Oh no, it’s in town too

2016-08-31T04:06:59.000059Z

Wow didn’t realize it was that close

2016-08-31T04:07:34.000060Z

I went to college in Ky so mostly used to weird sandstone. What do you have out there?

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:07:48.000061Z

Tuff and Basalt mostly

2016-08-31T04:07:58.000062Z

interesting

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:07:58.000063Z

It can get a little greasy in the summer

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:08:10.000064Z

I have climbed at the New quite a bit

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:08:15.000065Z

Never made it to the Red

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:08:32.000066Z

Sandstone is some good rock climbing

2016-08-31T04:08:44.000067Z

Yeah the few places we have around DC, Great Falls primarily has the same greasy problem. It’s mica schist.

2016-08-31T04:09:14.000068Z

Yeah Red River Gorge is unbelievable. Haven’t done much at New

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:09:21.000069Z

Ahh, good old mica

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:09:50.000070Z

There is a lot on gneiss in NC, which has some mica, but honestly, it makes for some really good routes

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:09:55.000071Z

if the cliff is good

2016-08-31T04:10:06.000072Z

cut your fingers to shreds lol Here there’s lots of little quartz intrusions so you got to be careful

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:10:33.000073Z

Yep, I’ve definitely put cams in quartz pods

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:11:05.000074Z

There is a crag in the peidmont of NC called Moore’s wall. Stellar bouldering and trad. All Gneiss

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:11:14.000075Z

Boone has some too

2016-08-31T04:11:46.000076Z

I’ll have to remember that if I’m down that way

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:11:52.000077Z

And then there are the rotten spots you have to avoid

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:12:06.000078Z

You should. It’s off the map for most people though

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:12:29.000079Z

But if your down in raleigh or maybe charlotte, it’s worth a look

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:12:50.000080Z

Otherwise head up to boone NC or grayson highlands in VA if you want to boulder

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:13:02.000081Z

Boone has boulders for days

2016-08-31T04:14:22.000082Z

Yeah I’ve heard good things about Boone

2016-08-31T04:15:28.000083Z

Well it’s been a pleasure! I’m gonna hit the hay but I’m game to chat climbing or Clojure anytime 😃

mahinshaw 2016-08-31T04:17:23.000085Z

awesome. Hit me up if you make it out here

2016-08-31T04:17:33.000086Z

will do, night
